British Police Scale Back Presence on Elon Musk’s X Over Extremist Contents
Several British police departments are reducing their online presence on Elon Musk’s popular social media site, X, and one has completely stopped using it due to worries that it may be used to spread extremist viewpoints.
Amanda Blakeman, the chief constable of North Wales Police confirmed the development in a statement on Friday.
Newsng gathered that Ten of the forty-five territorial police forces in Britain stated they were actively evaluating their presence on X, and six of them indicated they had lowered the number of accounts they maintained there.
According to Reuters, North Wales Police stated that it had completely ceased using X in August.
Elon Musk has upheld X and himself as defenders of free speech and the antidote to censorship, but not everyone agrees with the recent course chosen.
“We felt that the platform was no longer consistent with our values and, therefore, we have withdrawn our use of it. ” Chief Constable Amanda.
For almost a decade, X has served as a vital conduit for communications for the British government, public agencies, and even the royal family.
Its concise language and broad reach help emergency services notify consumers about anything from missing persons or traffic closures to civic catastrophes.
Out of these twenty-three forces, six claimed to be limiting their involvement to one or two X accounts.
Gwent Police, based nearby in Wales, announced that they were examining X because of concerns about “the tone of the platform and whether that is the right place to reach our communities.”
Gwent has removed all of its individual officer accounts, while another English force is considering if keeping up with X was the most effective approach to interact with and foster community trust.
