BREAKING: Senate Passes N54.9trn 2025 Budget

The Senate on Thursday passed an N54.9tn budget for 2025.

Components of the budget as passed by the upper legislative chamber include N3.6tn for statutory transfers, while N14.3tn is for debt servicing.
Recurrent expenditure takes N13.5tn while N23.9tn goes for capital expenditure.

While presenting the final copy of the budget during plenary, the chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola, complained about the late submission of the 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly.

This, he said, was responsible for the late passing of the budget by the parliament.

Senator Adeola enjoined President Bola Tinubu to ensure that he presents his subsequent budget proposals to the National Assembly three months before the end of the year.

The lawmaker said presenting subsequent budget proposals to the National Assembly in good time would ensure the return to the January to December budget cycle.
