The Rivers State Police Command has condemned the brutal attack carried out by suspected cultists on June 23, 2025, at about 8:00 PM in Ahoada East Local Government Area.

The attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals: Corporal Francis Friday, a police officer, and Ngozi Ipah, an OSPAC operative.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, led by Umegbewe Kingsley, also known as ‘Gutam,’ and Opaka, believed to be leaders of the Iceland cult group, stormed the OSPAC office beside the Ahoada East Council Secretariat and opened fire on its operatives.

The victims were rushed to the Ahoada General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

The Command’s Spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement said operatives of the Command responded swiftly to the attack, with patrol teams led by the Divisional Police Officer arriving at the scene.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the scene and deployed tactical teams to track down and arrest the perpetrators.

The CP vowed that the killers of the police officer and the OSPAC operative will not escape justice.

“We will not rest until we apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” CP Adepoju said.

“We urge residents to remain calm and cooperative by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.”

Emeni Ibe, the President of Orashi National Congress (ONC), confirmed the incident and described the scene as chaotic, with business owners hurriedly shutting their shops and running to safety.

The incident has left the community in shock, with many residents expressing fear and concern for their safety.

Mr. Ibe called on the youth of the Local Government Area to drop their arms and give peace a chance, while also urging security agencies to come to their aid.

The incident is the latest in a string of violent events in the area. Last week, unknown youths invaded the office of the Administrator of Ahoada East LGA, beating him up and forcing him to sign a prepared resignation letter.
