Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly barely two months after his impeachment.

Obasa’s successor, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who took over from the impeached speaker, was equally re-elected as deputy speaker following her resignation as speaker.

On January 13, 2025, Obasa was impeached by the majority members of the Lagos State House of Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

However, he stormed the state assembly complex accompanied by security personnel and declared himself as the legitimate leader of the parliament.
