Borno massacre: Tinubu orders review of military operations against terrorists

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces to review ongoing security operations and intensify the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment to eliminate terrorist groups across the country.

The directive followed the recent attack by Boko Haram insurgents on Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, which left many civilians and soldiers dead.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in a condolence message on Monday, described the incident as a profound loss to both the state and the nation.

He expressed Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims while reaffirming the administration’s determination to defeat terrorism.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots.

“These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served,” Shettima said in a statement issued by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha.

Governor Zulum had earlier visited the affected community on Saturday to commiserate with bereaved families and troops affected by the attack.

Shettima further assured that Tinubu has approved the acquisition of more drones and directed all security agencies to intensify and review operational strategies.

He also reiterated the federal government’s consideration of establishing state police, stressing that localised security units are needed to tackle peculiar challenges in some states.

The Vice President offered prayers for the victims and pledged continued federal support to Borno and other states battling insecurity.
