Booker Signs Record-Breaking Extension In NBA History
Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker has signed a new two-year $145 million maximum contract extension with the club until the 2029-30 season.
It is the highest annual extension salary in NBA history.
Booker, and Suns owner Mat Ishbia met Wednesday night in Las Vegas to finalize the contract.
Booker’s annual extension salary ($72.5 million) surpassed Oklahoma City Thunder NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s $285 million supermax extension carrying a $71.25 million average annual value for the richest ever, and he will now have a total of five years and $316 million on his Suns contract.
The four-time NBA All-Star previously signed a four-year extension worth $220 million with the Suns, and the forthcoming season will be the second year of the deal.
The deal will pay him $53 million in the next season, $57 million in the 2026-27 season, and $61 million in 2027-28 before the latest deal takes over.
Last week, Gilgeous-Alexander was rewarded for leading the Thunder to the NBA title when the league MVP was handed a four-year, $285 supermax extension worth $71.25m a year.
Booker has played his entire career in Phoenix after being drafted with the 13th pick in the 2015 NBA draft.
He is the franchise’s points leader with 16,452 and has averaged over 25 points for seven seasons in a row. Last season he averaged 25.6 points per game.
He’s a two-time Olympic gold medalist, four-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection.
The 28-year-old recorded an average of 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game in the 2024-25 season.
He was shooting 46.1% from the field and 33.2% from the three-point arc.
Booker plays for the United States of America Basketball team, He is a four-time All-Star, a two-time All-NBA member, and is the Suns’ all-time leading scorer. He has also won gold medals with the 2020 and 2024 U.S. Olympic teams.
He made his debut for Phoenix at 18 years old and quickly became one of the league’s top scorers.
At 20, he became the youngest player to score over 60 points in a game, finishing with a Suns franchise record 70 against the Boston Celtics. At 22 years old, he became the youngest player in NBA history with consecutive 50-point games.
Booker helped lead the Suns to the NBA Finals in 2021 and earned All-NBA First Team honors in 2022 after a franchise-best 64-win season. In 2025, at 28, he became the Suns’ all-time leading scorer.
Phoenix Suns finished 11th on the Western Conference table last season, and they will be banking on Booker to lead them to greater heights next season.
