Boniface’s Transfer setbacks: How missed moves could shape striker’s career, redemption path

Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, has faced a career crossroad in the last eight months.

The Nigeria international suffered setbacks trying to leave Bayer Leverkusen to Al-Nassr during the January transfer window, and also AC Milan this ongoing summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old was close to joining Al-Nassr but the move fell through at the last minute after the Saudi Pro League club opted to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

As a result, Boniface ended up staying at Leverkusen for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

Similarly, Boniface in the past couple of days travelled to Italy to complete a summer transfer move to AC Milan.

The Super Eagles attacker had agreed on personal terms with the Serie A giants, but failed his medical tests at San Siro over the weekend, according to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.

The deal was called off and Boniface has now returned to Germany after his failed move to the Rossoneri.

Boniface could feature for Leverkusen when they face Werder Bremer in an away Bundesliga clash on Saturday.

Speaking with DAILY POST on Monday, respected Lagos-based journalist, Femi Fabunmi gave his view on how the setbacks could affect the player’s career.

Fabunmi also suggested how the Nigerian star can bounce back from the situation going forward.

What next for Boniface after missing out on Al Nassr, AC Milan moves in 2025?

“Victor Boniface still has a running contract with Bayer Leverkusen, he was going to join AC Milan on loan but the deal collapsed after he failed medicals,” Fabunmi told DAILY POST.

“This is not new as it happens sometimes during the transfer window.

“He will remain at Leverkusen and see what happens in the near future.

“Boniface can choose to renew his contract or pursue his career elsewhere, but at the moment he will return to his club in Germany to continue his business,” he said.

How the setbacks could affect Boniface’s career and how he can bounce back from the situation?

Fabunmi added, “About the setbacks affecting him, footballers everywhere experience setbacks, he will not be the first.

“Boniface should take it off his mind, concentrate on his career at Bayer Leverkusen for now and wait for his contract expiration or renewal as the case may be,” he advised.
