English Premier League club Nottingham Forest has sacked head coach Nuno Espírito Santo following a reported breakdown in his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis.
The Portuguese manager, who was appointed in December 2023, has been dismissed after less than a year in charge, with tensions off the pitch said to have played a key role in his departure.
Sources suggest a heated disagreement between Nuno and club owner Marinakis over transfer policy, team direction, and other unrevealed matters accelerated the decision.
Forest released a statement at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday that read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach.
“The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.
“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”
The coach was fired after Nuno publicly criticised the senior Forest officials in charge of their transfer policy, claiming that his team was “unbalanced” and “very, very far” from being prepared for the new season.
