The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved the promotion of thirty (30) senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to the rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections (ACG).

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the NCoS, Deputy Controller Umar Abubakar, on Tuesday, the promotion was a strategic step toward strengthening leadership within the Service and aligning with ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing operational capacity and service delivery.

Among those promoted are twenty-seven (27) general duty officers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication, and competence across various correctional formations nationwide.

The additional, three (3) professional officers were elevated in recognition of their specialized expertise and invaluable contributions in the fields of Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health.

The promotion exercise, the statement noted, is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, and the transformative leadership of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The Minister has been widely credited for his commitment to repositioning the NCoS for greater professionalism, efficiency, and public trust.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Nwakuche, charged them to see their elevation not merely as recognition of past efforts but as a clarion call to even greater responsibility.

He emphasised the importance of sustained excellence in correctional service delivery, strategic leadership, and adherence to the Service’s core mandates of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates.

“This promotion marks a significant milestone in our efforts to build a motivated, disciplined, and professional workforce capable of meeting the evolving challenges of modern corrections and ensuring public safety,” CGC Nwakuche stated.

Nwakuche urged the officers to remain committed to global best practices and to lead by example as the Service continues to implement reforms designed to enhance performance, uphold human dignity, and foster rehabilitation outcomes.

The statement noted that the Nigerian Correctional Service, under the current leadership, has continued to prioritize staff welfare, professional development, and institutional reforms, which reflect a new era of transformation anchored in accountability and excellence.
