The House of Representatives has turned the search light on porn lovers in the country.

It has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to direct internet service providers in the country to block obscene and pornographic websites.

The resolution was passed on Tuesday, a sequel to a motion sponsored by Rep Dalhatu Tafoki (APC, Katsina State).

In his motion, Tafoki complained about the destructive impact of cyber pornography in Nigeria and at the global stage.

He observed that Nigeria has not taken effective steps to stem the ugly tide.

Stressing that Nigerian society is deeply rooted in religion, Tafoki reminded the House that major faiths in the country prohibit nudity, obscenity and pornography.

He cited some countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa where effective anti-pornography laws exist.

The Rep recalled warnings by psychologists and sociologists about the negative impact of pornography, including its potential to encourage adultery, prostitution, and addiction.

“Renowned psychologists and sociologists around the world have issued stern warnings on the psychological, sociological and mental consequences of viewing pornographic content,” he said.

The motion was overwhelmingly adopted through voice vote, with the House asking NCC to impose sanctions on service providers that failed to comply with the directive.
