Blackout In Lagos As Disruption Hits Omotoso-Ikeja West 330kV Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Tuesday announced a major disruption in power supply to Lagos State following a transmission line snap between Towers 420 and 422 on the Omotoso-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has resulted in a reduction of about 350 MW of bulk electricity supplied to the Lagos area, affecting both the Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies.

TCN, in a statement issued in Abuja by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated that, as a consequence, significant load shedding was currently being experienced across various parts of the state under the franchise areas of the two distribution companies.

TCN revealed that its engineers have been dispatched to the site and are working to repair the damaged sections of the high-voltage transmission line.

It added that materials necessary for the restoration have also been mobilised, and the repair process is expected to be completed within three days.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this situation has caused the government, electricity consumers in Lagos, and the Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies,” the statement added.

TCN assured the public that once the repairs are completed, full bulk power supply will be restored to the Lagos area.

“The company is working diligently to restore normalcy to the affected areas as quickly as possible,’’ the company stated.
