Bharti Airtel Winds Down Wynk Music app Operation, Pushes Subscribers to Apple Music Via New Partnership

Wynk Music, one of India’s top music streaming providers, is shutting down.

According to local reports, Wynk’s parent company, Bharti Airtel, is preparing to push subscribers to Apple Music in a fresh partnership with the tech giant.

According to PTI, the business would reassign all Wynk Music personnel to various roles within Airtel.

Customers who have enrolled on Airtel’s premium broadband and postpaid services will receive Apple TV+ service as part of their contracts, the Indian company announced Tuesday.

“We can confirm that Wynk Music will be sunsetted, and all employees from Wynk Music will be integrated into the broader Airtel ecosystem.

“Airtel customers will still have access to music streaming services through Apple Music. Moreover, Wynk Premium subscribers will receive exclusive offers from Airtel for Apple services,” the spokesperson stated.

The new modifications will take effect later this year.

Apple bills 99 Indian rupees ($1.2) per month for Apple TV+ and Apple Music in India, against $10 and $11 in the United States, respectively.

Newsng understands that a partnership with Airtel is likely to cut the average revenue the business gets for Apple Music and TV+ in the world’s second-largest internet market.

However, the move is most likely an attempt by Apple to reach more people in India, where Android is the operating system on more than 90% of devices. Apple Music and Apple TV+ are available for Android.

“We are thrilled that Airtel customers in India will soon be able to enjoy all of the incredible content on Apple TV+ and Apple Music,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Sports and Beats, in a statement.

“With our ever-growing catalogue of world‐class films, television shows and music to choose from we know there will be something for everyone.”

We earlier reported that to spread cutting-edge AI technologies to Indian businesses and hasten cloud adoption, Airtel India and Google Cloud have announced a strategic partnership amid the rapid growth of the Indian public cloud market.
