The Nigerian Army has arrested an ammunition courier, Shamsiyya Ahadu, 25, over the possession of 764 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and six magazines.

The Troops of 1 Brigade, Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, arrested Ahadu alongside her accomplice, a motorcycle rider named Ahmed Husaini.

The army, in a statement on Saturday, revealed that the arms were meant to be delivered to alleged terrorist kingpin Bello Turji’s camp.

The statement, signed by the Coordinator Joint Media Coordinating Centre of the Operation, Lieu.-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi said the suspects were arrested on December 28, in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

“The arrest followed an intelligence report regarding the movement of the terrorist’s logistics along the road from Kware to Badarawa in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

“In response to the development, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma promptly established a roadblock leading to the apprehension of the suspects.

“Both suspects are currently undergoing investigation by appropriate authorities,” the statement said.

The Army therefore urged the public not to relent in their efforts at providing credible information that would lead to the arrest of wanted terrorists and their collaborators.

“Additionally, the Theatre wishes to appreciate the sustained local support it is enjoying from the people of the Zone towards the fulfilment of Operation Fansan Yamma mandate.

“Operation Fansan Yamma remains dedicated to dismantling all terrorist networks as well as prevent illegal movement of arms and ammunition within its Theatre of Operation,” the Army said.
