Bauchi govt sacks varsity bursar, orders audit of finances
The Bauchi State Government has approved the immediate dismissal of the Acting Bursar of Sa’adu Zungur University, Ayuba Mohammed Gital, over alleged irregularities surrounding his appointment and financial conduct.
Governor Bala Mohammed announced the decision on Tuesday while receiving the report of the Visitation Panel set up to resolve ongoing industrial disputes in the university.
The panel’s findings prompted swift action from the government to restore accountability and transparency in the institution’s operations.
As part of the measures, the governor disclosed plans to constitute an audit committee to probe the university’s financial activities, particularly revenue generated from students and other internal sources.
Governor Mohammed explained that although the government had previously maintained a hands-off approach to the university’s finances, it would now intervene to enforce stricter oversight.
He commended the panel for its comprehensive work, assuring that its recommendations would be presented to the State Executive Council for deliberation and implementation.
Earlier, the panel’s chairperson, Professor Gambo Laraba, while submitting the report, revealed that the team consulted with key stakeholders, reviewed several memoranda, and assessed infrastructure across the university’s three campuses.
