Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has ordered the immediate clearing and cleaning of all blocked waterways in the Bauchi metropolis following recent heavy rains that caused flooding due to blocked drainage systems.

The directive was conveyed through the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Ahmed Kawule, during an inspection of the affected areas.

Speaking to journalists during a visit to the affected areas on Wednesday, the commissioner explained that the exercise aims to decongest the waterways to facilitate water flow and promote better hygiene.

Kawule further stated that the cleanup effort is scheduled to be completed before the end of this year’s rainy season.

He assured residents that the work would be of high quality and that the ministry would soon launch a public awareness campaign on the dangers of indiscriminate waste disposal and building on waterways.

The commissioner urged the public to take responsibility for maintaining completed projects in their communities. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the security and well-being of its citizens.
