Bandits kill six CPG members, abduct others in Zamfara community
At least six members of the Community Protection Guards, CPG, were killed on Thursday in an ambush by suspected bandits in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. as the victims were travelling from Bungudu to Yar Katsina in the Kekun Waje District to sympathize with the family of a colleague killed a day earlier.
According to a post on Friday by security analyst Zagazola on X, the guards were attacked by heavily armed assailants who opened fire, killing six on the spot. Several rifles and a motorcycle belonging to the victims were reportedly taken by the attackers.
Sources said the ambush may have also resulted in the abduction of some of the guards, though the exact number remains unclear.
Troops of Operation FANSAR were deployed to the area shortly after the attack, but the suspects had fled into the bush before their arrival.
The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Bungudu town for burial.
