Babcock Varsity Dismisses Student For ‘Yahoo Plus,’ Other Schemes
Babcock University has dismissed Oladipupo Siwajuola after an investigation revealed his alleged involvement in ‘Yahoo Yahoo Plus’ scheme and possession and use of fetish materials.
‘Yahoo Plus’ is a term used in Nigeria to refer to more extreme internet fraud by persons who offer human sacrifices, rituals, kidnapping, and harvesting body parts.
Recall that Siwajuola’s disappearance became a trending topic in early May 2025, after his mother took to social media and accused the university of failing in its duties.
According to a statement released by the institution on Wednesday, and signed by the university’s Director of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, Siwajuola deliberately exited campus on April 28, 2025, without authorization and was later found to have engaged in various acts of misconduct, including participating in a “Yahoo Yahoo Plus” scheme, drug peddling, impersonation, and dishonesty.
The university’s investigation, which included a voluntary written statement from Siwajuola, confirmed that he had purchased a black soap for ritual purposes, borrowed money from an online loan app to fund gambling, and sold his personal phone without authorisation.
“He revealed that he was engaging in fetish practices in an attempt to get rich quick.
“He also confessed to drug peddling, borrowing N500,000 from an online loan app to fund gambling, and impersonating another student to open a bank account,” the statement said.
The institution disclosed that Siwajuola was returned to campus by his father on May 15, 2025, and was invited by the Security Services Department for a formal debrief.
“Among them was the purchase of a black soap from a traditional herbalist for N100,000, which contradicted his mother’s earlier claim that she had given it to him to treat a skin condition.
“Siwajuola, admitted that the soap was intended for ritual purposes, as part of a ‘Yahoo Yahoo Plus’ scheme, a slang term for internet fraud mixed with fetish practices.
“He revealed that he was engaging in fetish practices in an attempt to get rich quick.
“He also confessed to drug peddling, borrowing N500,000 from an online loan app to fund gambling, and impersonating another student to open a bank account,” the statement said.
Given the severity of the offences, the university dismissed Siwajuola with immediate effect, citing its commitment to maintaining the safety and moral integrity of its students.
The university also responded to the student’s mother’s claims on social media, describing them as “sensational and baseless accusations,” but chose not to pursue a libel case due to the responsible conduct shown by the student’s father.
