Authors Celebrate Wole Soyinka’s 91st Birthday

The South West Authors Forum (SWAF) and the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Ogun State Chapter, have congratulated Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on his 91st birthday.
In a statement signed by SWAF President and ANA Ogun Chairman, Dr. Chris Omotosho, the authors described Soyinka as a “literary giant” and “God’s special gift to humanity.”
The bodies called for sustained efforts to maintain the annual Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature, which Soyinka considers a vital project close to his heart.
The ANA Ogun chapter dedicated its July meeting to Soyinka, holding special reading sessions of his works and paying tributes to his contributions to literature.
“ANA, Ogun state chapter at its July Business Meeting/Readings dedicated to Professor Wole Soyinka, resolved that the annual Prize would immortalise the awesome contributions of “Eni Ogun to all the genres of literature.
“Special reading sessions of Soyinka’s works were held while torrents of tributes flowed to celebrate his industry, ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness.
“It was a great delight and somewhat a pride to us in ANA Ogun that our own indefatigable, cerebral, renowned playwright, Essayist, Poet, Actor, Theatre Director, Human Rights Activist and Social Crusader is still going stronger than ever before at 91
The statement praised Soyinka’s industry, creativity, and selfless service to humanity, wishing him good health, a sound mind, and many more years of service. “Happy birthday, Kongi!” the authors exclaimed, celebrating the legendary writer’s enduring legacy.
