Arsenal Suffer Saka Injury Blow, Ruled Out For Nine Weeks
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka is expected to be out of action for many weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the 5-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Saka limped off in the encounter in the first half, and left Selhurst Park on crutches to dig a blow to Arsenal’s title hopes.
He had previously picked up a hamstring injury on international duty in October during England’s defeat to Greece.
Arteta has now revealed that Saka is expected to be sidelined for many weeks with some reports claiming that he will be out until February.
He said: “It’s not looking good, he is going to be out for many weeks.
“It is what it is. He’s injured, we cannot change it. We’re going to use this time now to help him.
“We are pretty worried about Saka’s injury. He grabbed his hamstring and couldn’t continue. He will have to be assessed but we are pretty worried, yes.”
Arteta also revealed that the congested fixture list played a part in Saka’s injury.
He said: “It’s probably more the accumulation [of matches] as people like Declan [Rice] and Bukayo have played over 130 games in three seasons.”
Saka is expected to miss up to 10 matches for Arsenal in all competitions.
The Gunners are also expected to be without the services of Raheem Sterling, who has suffered a knee injury, and he is set to be sidelined for a few weeks.
Saka has started all but one of Arsenal’s 17 Premier League matches so far this season.
He has also started in five of the club’s Champions League fixtures, along with one Carabao Cup fixture.
Saka’s absence is a major blow to the team due to his importance in the final third, he has scored nine goals and recorded 13 assists in all competitions this season.
Since 2019, He has contributed 52 goals and 42 assists, the most of any Gunners player, with Gabriel Martinelli next on the list with 34 goals and 14 assists.
The Gunners will welcome Ipswich Town to the Emirates Stadium in a Premier League encounter on Friday.
