Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago has pledged continued commitment to collaborate with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that terrorism is halted in the country.

This comes on the heels of the arrest of Abubakar Abba, leader of Mahmuda, one of the most feared terror groups in Nigeria by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the arrest, the governor, in a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, described the move as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians.

“He was apprehended alive through an intelligence-led operation by the DSS,” the Governor stated.

Bago praised President Tinubu’s willpower and commitment to ending insecurity, noting that the arrest was a huge victory for the people and the government.

“Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, which is one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been arrested by the DSS.

“Niger State government will continue to collaborate with the federal government and security agencies to ensure that terrorism is halted in the country,” he noted.

The Governor also commended the DSS for their competence and intelligence in capturing the high-profile terrorist without firing a single shot.

“Look at the appointments in the security services, especially the DSS. It takes a tremendous degree of intelligence and competence to, without firing a single shot, capture a high-profile terrorist like Abba.

“Where there is a will, they say, there is a way. Mr. President has consistently shown that willpower. That’s why we are recording such successes,” he maintained.

Recall that the Mahmuda terror group had been terrorizing residents around the Kainji National Park in Niger State, and their leader’s disappearance had raised suspicions among locals.

Security sources disclosed that after weeks of surveillance, the DSS trailed and arrested the terror group leader in Wawa community, Borgu local government area of Niger State.
