Troops of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued a senior officer, Major MD Josiah, who was abducted by gunmen in Bomadi, Delta State, on Monday.

The Army confirmed on Tuesday that Josiah sustained gunshot wounds during the operation.

The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Captain Iliyasu Rijau, said the officer was evacuated to a medical facility where he is receiving treatment.

According to the Army, the operation followed a 24-hour intelligence gathering, detailed planning, and collaboration with community leaders in Bomadi.

He said the troops tracked the abductors to Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area and freed Josiah on September 9, 2025.

“Although Major Josiah sustained gunshot wounds during the rescue operation, he has been evacuated to a medical facility for treatment and is receiving adequate care,” he said.

The Commander of 63 Brigade and Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General MA Shonibare, praised the soldiers for their courage and tactical skill during the rescue.

He also acknowledged the contributions of residents in Bomadi, noting that their cooperation helped in achieving the breakthrough.

“This collaboration is a testament to the growing trust and partnership between the Nigerian Army and local communities in the fight against criminality.

“The successful rescue operation demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s capacity to respond decisively to security challenges and protect the lives and property of citizens,” Shonibare said.
