The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of officers and soldiers across the country.

According to him, the well-being of troops and their families remain top priority under his leadership.

Oluyede gave this assurance while addressing journalists at the end of his three-day operational visit to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Army Chief, who commissioned several projects during the visit, said the tour was primarily aimed at assessing the operational readiness of formations under the division, as well as to interact with troops and critical stakeholders in the Niger Delta region.

He explained that the visit allowed him to see firsthand the challenges confronting soldiers in their line of duty.

According to him, ensuring their welfare is essential to maintaining high morale and effectiveness in the discharge of military operations.

Oluyede said, “I want to examine the level of my soldiers’ welfare particularly, because I am someone who is very particular about the well-being of my soldiers and their families.

“And with that, I know very well the challenges, and I am going to address the challenges within the ambit of resources available to me as the leader of the army.

“I promise my soldiers that I will do my very best with the support of the Federal Government to make life better for them. That’s why I came here, and I think my purpose has been achieved.”

During the tour, the Chief of Army Staff commissioned a number of projects, including the newly constructed 6 Division Administration Building, a Filling Station, the Headquarters 6 Division Extension, Python Harmony House, the 6 Division Guard Room, two blocks of Corporal Below Quarters, renovated 10-Family Corporal Below Quarters, and the remodelled 29 Battalion Quarter Guard.

He also inaugurated some additional facilities at the Elele Barracks.

Oluyede maintained that the Nigerian Army would continue to consolidate on its operational successes.
