A student of the Abubakar Tatari Ali polytechnic Bauchi has been killed in an attack by suspected armed robbers.
The assailants, who were armed attacked the students at about 3a.m. Friday in their off campus lodge which was occupied by two students.
Three of the armed robbers broke in and during the struggle, one of the students, described as Samuel Mbami, an ND2 Mass Communication student, was stabbed in the stomach and he later died from excessive bleeding.
The incident comes two weeks after a robbery incident involving students of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.
In a statement signed by its president, Usman Aliyu, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) condemned the killing, describing it as “tragic and senseless.” The union called for a thorough investigation, stronger security presence on and around campuses, and urged students to remain calm while prioritising their safety.
Efforts to obtain confirmation or comments from the Bauchi State Police Command were unsuccessful as of press time.
