Arewa Group Gives TCN Boss 10-Day Ultimatum To Resign Over Poor Electricity

A northern group, The Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development has given the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Engr. Sule A. Abdulaziz, a 10-working-day ultimatum to resign from his position.

The ultimatum is backed by a threat of mass protest, calling for his dismissal by President Bola Tinubu, citing alleged incompetence, lack of vision, and sabotage of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the current administration.

According to the AYAPD, Abdulaziz’s leadership has been marked by multiple collapses of Nigeria’s power grid, resulting in frequent system failures, unreliable power supply, and economic hardships.

Addressing a newsmen at a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, The group’s Secretary, James Ishaku, also alleged that the TCN continues to grapple with outdated equipment, some over 50 years old, and that Abdulaziz has consistently ignored stakeholder engagement, demonstrating a lack of accountability and transparency.

“We are giving Engr. Sule A. Abdulaziz 10 working days to resign from his position as MD/CEO of TCN,” Ishaku said.

“If he fails to do so, we will call for a massive protest, occupying the TCN building until he resigns or gets dismissed immediately by President Bola Tinubu.”

The group also demanded the appointment of a competent and visionary leader to steer the TCN towards achieving a stable and efficient power supply.

“The TCN’s inability to provide stable and efficient power supply has had a devastating impact on the nation’s economy and daily life.

“We cannot afford to have a leadership that is disconnected from the needs and aspirations of Nigerians. Engr. Abdulaziz’s leadership style has been marked by incompetence, lack of vision, and a total disregard for stakeholder engagement,” he added.

The PUNCH online reports that AYAPD’s ultimatum comes on the heels of growing concerns about the state of Nigeria’s power sector. The nation’s power grid has been plagued by frequent collapses, and the TCN has been criticized for its inability to provide stable and efficient power supply.

“We urge President Tinubu to act decisively to restore public confidence in the power sector and ensure the nation’s energy needs are met with integrity and foresight.

“The Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development remains committed to advocating for accountability and progress in Nigeria. We will not stand idly by while the nation’s power sector is sabotaged by incompetent leadership,” Ishaku added.
