Apple Commits $100bn To U.S. Expansion Amid Trump’s Tariff Pressure

President Donald Trump is expected to announce a new $100bn investment by Apple aimed at expanding the tech giant’s operations in the United States, a White House official confirmed on Wednesday.

The fresh injection follows Apple’s earlier pledge of $500bn toward its domestic expansion efforts this year, as the company adjusts to mounting pressure from Trump’s economic policies and tariffs.

“President Trump’s America First economic agenda has secured trillions of dollars in investments that support American jobs and bolster American businesses,” said White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers in a statement to CNN.

“Today’s announcement with Apple is another win for our manufacturing industry that will simultaneously help reshore the production of critical components to protect America’s economic and national security,” Rogers added.

As part of the new investment, Apple will launch an American manufacturing programme designed to shift more of its supply chain into the U.S. and reduce reliance on overseas assembly hubs.

The Trump administration has long pushed for tech companies like Apple to bring production back home, often criticising their dependence on facilities in China, India, and Vietnam.

Many of Apple’s key suppliers remain based in Asia, meaning domestic assembly would require complex and costly logistics to transport components globally.

Trump has previously threatened both Apple and Samsung with tariffs if they fail to manufacture phones for the U.S. market within American borders.

“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else,” Trump posted on Truth Social in May.

“If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S.,” he added.

Sources say Apple CEO Tim Cook has held private discussions with Trump in recent months regarding the impact of tariffs on the company.

On a recent earnings call, Cook revealed Apple expects to pay $1.1bn in tariff-related costs in the September quarter alone.

The investment announcement comes as Trump prepares to increase tariffs on India, a country where Apple now assembles a significant share of the iPhones sold in the U.S.

Apple’s move follows similar commitments from other tech heavyweights.

In recent months, Texas Instruments pledged $60bn for domestic chip production, Taiwan’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) committed $100bn, and Nvidia announced it would build its supercomputers on U.S. soil.
