APGA’s Nwachukwu Wins Anambra South Senate Seat With 70,000-Vote Margin
The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Emmanuel Nwachukwu, has won the Anambra South senatorial by-election .
Nwachukwu, popularly known as Onodugo, emerged winner with a total of 90,408 votes.
He will succeed late Ifeanyi Ubah of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Senate, who died in office after an undisclosed sickness in 2024.
The APGA candidate defeated APC’s Azuka Okwuosa by over 70,000 votes, thereby ending the battle for senatorial seat.
APC came second with 19,812 votes, followed by the Young Progressive Party (YPP) with 6,538 votes; African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 2,889 votes; Labour Party with 205 votes and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 68 votes.
Similarly, APGA’s Mimi Azikiwe emerged the winner of the Onithsa North State Constituency 1 by-election held in the state on Saturday.
Azikiwe recorded a landslide victory with 7,774 votes to secure the seat in the State House of Assembly.
The returning officer, Professor Ibiam Ekpe, declared Azikiwe the winner and returned her elected to replace the late Justice Azuka who was abducted and killed by armed men in 2024.
The late Azuka’s spouse, Justina, was vying to complete her deceased husband’s tenure under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, she came behind Azikiwe with a total of 1909 votes.
