APGA leader urges Tinubu to create more states
Mr. Eze-Onyebuchi Chukwu, the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has urged President Bola Tinubu to take steps toward the creation of additional states as a means to correct the imbalance in Nigeria’s geopolitical structure.
Chukwu made the appeal in an open letter to the President, which was released to the press on Friday in Abuja.
He highlighted that there is a clear imbalance in the composition of the country’s six geopolitical zones, noting that while some zones consist of seven states, others have only six or even five.
He stated that this disparity had led to unequal representation in the National Assembly, along with imbalanced access to federal resources, appointments, and development initiatives.
“It is not the will of God that one man receives more blessings simply because he married more wives and has more children.
“God’s blessings are equitably distributed and not tied to the size of one’s family. The Nigerian state must not reward numerical advantage without merit,” he said.
Chukwu, who also serves as the founder and Director-General of the Society Well-being Advocates of Nigeria (SWAN), emphasized that no region should wield greater federal influence solely because it has more states.
“In a federation that seeks equity and unity, such lopsidedness undermines both. Let all regions be given seven states,” he said.
He noted that the push for a new constitution and restructuring of the country must begin with fair and equal representation.
“We cannot claim to be one Nigeria when some are more represented than others at the table where decisions are made,” he added.
Chukwu called on President Tinubu to take bold steps toward creating additional states in underrepresented regions, describing it as an act of justice and a lasting legacy of national unity.
“Let equity reign. Let all regions be given seven states,” he stated.
