The member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency in the 8th Abia State House of Assembly, Hon.Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson on Tuesday 25, March 2025, at the plenary defected to Labour Party.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Hon Johnson said his reasons for his resignation is the deep division and polarization in the PDP from the National to the State level.

He said after due consultation with his constituents and in recognition of the sterling performances of the Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti he decided to pinch his tent with the Labour party led by the Governor.

“NOTICE OF MY RESIGNATION FROM THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) AND MY SUBSEQUENT MEMBERSHIP OF LABOUR PARTY.

“I write to formally inform Mr. Speaker and my fellow honourable members of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party and my movement to the Labour party as a member.

“Permit me also to attach to this notice, a copy of my resignation letter dated 12th of March 2025 which was received and endorsed by the chairman of PDP in my ward the same day. The reasons for my resignation are as stated in the letter, mainly predicated on the deep division and polarisation in the party from National to state levels.

“After due consultation with my constituents, and in recognition of the sterling performance of our dear governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, I have picked up the membership of the Labour party and have now become a member of the Labour Party.

“I therefore wish to be accorded recognition going forward as a member of the Labour Party.

“Please accept the assurances of my highest esteem at all times for your office, your person and this noble and honourable House”.

By joining the Labour Party, Hon. Johnson has become a second Lawmaker elected under the platform of the People Democratic Party to defect to the LP.

Recall that the Member Representing Isialangwa South State Constituency, Hon. Rowland Chinwendu Dennis, had last month defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling Labour Party (LP), bringing along hundreds of stakeholders, ward chairmen, and party loyalists.

The grand reception ceremony, held at the Group Primary School, Umuoba Isialangwa South LGA, was attended by Governor Alex Otti, top government officials, traditional rulers, and party stakeholders.

The event marked a significant boost for the Labour Party in the state, further consolidating its strength ahead of future elections.
