Another bridge collapses in Taraba
The Malam-Audu bridge, a key link between Pantisawa in Yorro Local Government Council and Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, collapsed on Thursday, leaving hundreds of commuters and pedestrians stranded on both sides.
The incident, which has disrupted transportation along the busy route and forced travellers to seek alternative, longer paths to their destinations, was caused by the heavy downpour that lasted several hours.
Eyewitnesses reported that the collapse occurred suddenly, with no prior warning, though no casualties had been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Residents who spoke with DAILY POST cited the inability of the authorities to fix the Namnai bridge that collapsed last year, and expressed concern over the recent development. They urged the relevant authorities not to treat the latest incident with kid gloves.
“We are calling on the government to take it seriously because we have been cut off from the state capital and other parts of the state,” said Mallam Saliu.
Echoing Saliu’s sentiment, other members of the community who spoke to DAILY POST said the collapsed bridge would undoubtedly have a negative impact on the economy of the community, Taraba North, and the state at large.
The incident comes a year after the collapse of the Namnai bridge in Gassol Local Government Council of the state.
