Ange Postecoglou Lined Up to Take Over at Nottingham Forest After Nuno Sacking

English Premier League club Nottingham Forest is moving swiftly to appoint Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo.

Sources close to the club suggest Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has identified Postecoglou as the leading candidate and wants a rapid appointment to stabilise the team. Talks are understood to be at an advanced stage, with the Australian coach open to returning to Premier League management.

Nuno was fired after publicly criticizing the senior Forest officials in charge of their transfer policy, claiming that his team was “unbalanced” and “very, very far” from being prepared for the new season.

Forest released a statement at 12.15 a.m. on Tuesday that read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.

“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”

Postecoglou, who built his reputation at Celtic before a recent stint at Tottenham Hotspur, is admired for his attacking philosophy and ability to quickly instil belief in struggling squads. His experience in handling pressure and rebuilding sides has made him the preferred choice to take charge at the City Ground.
