The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtoochukwu Udeze has distributed bundles of Orange-Fresh Sweet Potato stalks to over 500 widows.

Orange-Fresh Sweet Potatoes are a nutritious and versatile food source that offer various health benefits and nutritional value.

The widows were drawn from all the wards in the state’s Ogbaru Local Government Area.

They were tutored by an expert on farming practices, value chains and health benefits of the crop.

Flagging off the exercise at his Atani Country home, Udeze said that the initiative was aimed at making them self-sufficient in the production of the crop.

He urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the tutorial and engage in extensive plantation, as its sustainability holds significant medicinal and economic value compared to other crops.

The Speaker further enjoined the widows to engage more in Orange Fresh Sweet Potatoes farming to improve production and support livelihoods in the communities.

He expressed optimism that when done with good practices and efficient management, it could yield a significant income for the economic sustainability of their families.

Delivering a lecture on the benefits of the crop, the resource person, noted that production of the crop would bring more development to its value chains in addition to medicinal benefits.

He noted that the support received from the benefactor would encourage more farmers to embrace the plantation of the crop in the area.

Some of the beneficiaries pledged to make good use of the crop to multiply their yields.
