Anambra Police Seek Help After Man Shot Dead by Unknown Gunmen

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of the body of a middle-aged man who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that operatives responded to a distress call in the early hours of January 23 and recovered the body of the deceased.
“In the early hours of January 23, 2025, police operatives attached to Ozubulu Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway and recovered the body of the yet-to-be-identified young man,” Ikenga said.
According to one of the witnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity, “the assailants shot the victim in the stomach and abandoned his body at the scene.”.
“The attack happened along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway. The gunmen, who were riding in a Toyota Sienna, shot the man in the stomach and left him for dead before fleeing. The police operatives from Ozubulu Division came the following day to remove the body,” the eyewitness recounted.
Ikenga confirmed that preliminary investigations revealed the victim was shot in the stomach by suspected armed men who fled the scene.
“The command seeks assistance from members of the public to identify the victim and provide any information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
“The body has been deposited in the morgue, and further updates will be communicated,” he stated.
