The Anambra State Police Command has arrested an alleged cultist, Chukwujekwu Okoye, popularly known as Bus-Stop, in connection with a string of violent crimes in Oko, Orumba North local government area.

On Tuesday, the police said Okoye, 25, was arrested on July 7 by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu.

Police described him as a high-ranking member of the Aye Confraternity and had been on their radar following a violent cult attack.

Recall that a cult-related attack on June 19 left two dead, two injured, and two others abducted at the Total and Tipper Junctions of Oko.

During the arrest, officers recovered an automatic pump-action gun and two mobile phones, believed to be among the items stolen from victims.

Upon interrogation, the police noted that the suspect confessed to being an active cult member and that he currently holds a leadership position.

Okoye also confessed to his role in the cult attack on Oko, where he and six other gang members unleashed violence on unsuspecting residents.

The attack, according to police, was part of a larger cult rivalry that has escalated in recent months.

Following his confession, the police said they had launched a manhunt for the remaining gang members, aiming to dismantle the entire cult network operating in the area.

“We have activated plans for further arrests. This is part of our ongoing effort to break down criminal structures threatening peace in the state,” SP Ikenga said.

The police reassured residents that more updates would follow and called on the public to report suspicious activities as the command intensified operations across the state.
