The police in Anambra State have deployed operatives across locations of the governorship primary elections of different political parties.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressives Congress (APC) are holding primaries to produce candidates for the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

The Anambra police commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu, urged the candidates to adhere to the rules and ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

He also admonished the officers deployed to provide security services to be professional and apolitical.

In a statement by the command, dated April 4, the CP said he has deployed personnel strategically and engaged with stakeholders to prevent conflicts.

The statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, further noted that the approach would boost the electorate’s confidence and trust to ensure a smooth voting process.

The statement read partly: “The security teams are expected to carry out security patrols, surveillance, traffic control and patrols in conjunction with sister security agencies.

The CP called on members of the public to coordinate with and cooperate with the police and other security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

“In the event of any request for security service, members of the public are advised to call the following phone numbers: the Command Control Room Number/Situation room number 07039194332 or the PRO at 08039334002

“The Command is committed to upholding the rule of law by ensuring that all individuals, including politicians and their supporters, adhere to the law and respect the democratic process.”
