The Anambra Police have arrested a suspect, Ewulu Chikwo, 35, over an alleged attempt to enforce the outlawed Monday sit-at-home in the Ihiala local government area of the state.
A state’s police revealed that the suspect was arrested following a raid on a criminal camp at Osumoghu Isieke Village, Ihiala LGA, on April 25.
A statement by the command on Tuesday said the arrest was executed by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad/Anti-Kidnapping Unit acting on credible information.
The suspect, upon arrest, confessed to being a member of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He allegedly confessed to being among the armed criminals who attacked the Ukpor Divisional Police Headquarters in 2022, where a policewoman, Inspector Stella Maris, was gruesomely murdered.
“Given the above, the Joint Security Force has intensified patrols in the area, even as the State Police Command has equally assured swift action on any security information, especially as it affects the arrest of other gang members in the area,” the police said.
