ANAMBRA: I’ll Serve Only One Term, Says LP’s Moghalu

The Labour Party candidate in the Anambra governorship election, George Moghalu, has pledged to serve a single term to encourage zoning and rotation of power in the state.

Moghalu said this while speaking to stakeholders of the Omambala clan during a town hall meeting.

Omambala is a large clan made up of six Local Government Areas consisting of Anambra East and West, Oyi, Ayamelum, Awka North and Dunukofia.

While outlining his governance plans, the gubernatorial candidate pledged to enhance standards in the security profession to make it appealing to university graduates in the state.

He said, “I’ll make security jobs attractive to University graduates. I will enhance quality education, health care services and boost road infrastructure across the Omambala axis.

“I’m going to restore people’s confidence in government by being accessible, transparent and accountable in discharging his duties.

“Most importantly, I vow to serve for only one tenure to pave the way for the smooth maintenance of zoning and rotation of power in Anambra State.”

Likewise, Moghalu promised to resolve Anambra’s security challenges and invest in modern security gadgets to optimise the enforcement duties of personnel.

“I’ll apply modern security gadgets as obtainable in Enugu, including vehicles with radio communication, walkie-talkies, a wider range of CCTV cameras and adequate remuneration of vigilante operatives,” he said.

Beyond state-wide security, the Labour Party candidate acknowledged the unique advantage of Omambala, which is Agriculture, assuring the clan of the security of farmers.

He added, “There is no sentiment about it, Omambala has the potential to feed Anambra State as the food basket of the State.

“I want to assure you that I will elevate Omambala to take up the noble role as the food basket of the State.

“I will provide security and ensure that farmers are provided with all the necessary materials.

“This will enable them to engage in mechanised farming to cultivate and process food at the commercial level whereby people can go to Eke Awka or Nkwo Nnewi and buy foodstuffs produced in Omambala villages.”

Speaking, the President of the Omambala Union, Chike Obidigbo commended Moghalu on his single-term plan, allowing for appropriate power rotation.

“Because you recognise zoning, we will make sure that zoning remains on board so that after the next governor from South competes eight years for South, it will come to Central and subsequently to the North again,” Obidigbo said.

Present at the meeting were the former Chief Judge of Anambra, Rtd Justice Obidigwe, Zonal Chairman of Anambra North Council of Traditional rulers, Igwe Benjamin Okeji and traditional ruler of Umeri HRM Igwe Ben Emeka among other eminent personalities.
