Anambra governorship: ADC candidate Nwosu insists he won’t step down for Moghalu, others
The Anambra State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr John Nwosu, has stated that he will not step down for anyone in the forthcoming election in the state.
Nwosu, in a press release issued by the Director General of his campaign council, Hon. Bonny Okoye, revealed that he was recently visited by the Labour Party candidate, Dr George Moghalu, at his country home in Nnewi to discuss the election.
Both candidates are from Nnewi and had recently acknowledged that their aspirations might split the vote in the industrial town, while Moghalu had suggested that, before the election, he and Nwosu would meet to harmonise their positions and ensure the town presented a single candidate.
However, in a press release on Tuesday, Nwosu insisted that he would pursue the election to the end and would not step down for Moghalu or anyone else.
He said: “On Saturday, 30th August, upon his request, the Labour Party candidate Chief George Moghalu visited the ADC candidate Mr John Chuma Nwosu at his country home.
“Both candidates discussed an array of issues relating to the 8th November Anambra governorship election. They shared the view of the urgent need to replace the incumbent ruling administration in Anambra State.
“The ADC candidate, Mr Nwosu, made very clear his intention to run a clean, focused political campaign until the very end.
“He was of the view that Anambra voters should decide whom they want as governor. Accordingly, the issue of any candidate stepping down for the other was completely off the table.
“I wish to reiterate, hereby, that ADC will remain in the governorship race until the very end.”
The Anambra governorship election is scheduled for 8th November.
Both Labour Party and ADC candidates are considered top contenders, alongside other key candidates such as the incumbent Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, representing the All Progressives Grand Alliance, and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, representing the All Progressives Congress.
