The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved the construction and dualisation of the 32.6km Ekwulobia–Nnobi Road at a cost of N28.85bn.

The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, disclosed this in a statement issued after the 14th ANSEC meeting held at the Government House, Light House, Awka.

According to Mefor, the project was awarded to Geld Construction Limited, and it is the fourth major dual carriageway project approved by the current administration.

The road, the government said, aims to link Anambra’s four major cities to complete the state’s beltway system.

“The Council awarded the Ekwulobia to Nnobi Dualisation Road Project to complete the linking of the four major Anambra cities by dual carriageways, thus completing the Anambra beltway to permit easy flow of traffic around the state,” Mefor said.

In addition to the road dualisation, other contracts were approved by the Council including the “Supply and Installation of Mechanical Appurtenances” at the College of Nursing Sciences, awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd for N110.65m.

Another is the “Construction of a Metallic View-Point Barricade” at the Light House, Awka, awarded to Muterbonch & Company Nig Ltd for N488.43m.

Also, the “Outstanding Road Segments in Okpoko Area” was awarded to IDC Construction Ltd for N2.03bn.

The “Procurement and Installation of Digital Multi-Band Jammers” is another project awarded to Intertrek Solutions and Services for N96.86m.

Finally, the government awarded Calyzid Ventures, the “Geophysical Survey and Mapping of 2,018.319 hectares of land”, with N95.82m

Dr. Mefor also announced that ANSEC had reviewed and approved the 2024 Business Enabling Reforms Action Plan (BERAP) under the State Action on Business Enabling Reform (SABER) Programme.

The government noted that the reforms focus on improving infrastructure, tax administration, land registration, and access to justice through small claims courts.

“The progress of these reforms is continuously monitored to ensure sustainability and assess their impact on businesses in Anambra State,” he added.

Regarding voter participation, the Council reviewed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and directed supervisors to allow public servants with proof to participate in the process during work hours.

The Council observed a minute’s silence to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
