The Osun Amotekun Corps has apprehended three individuals in connection with separate cases of rape, burglary and theft involving property worth millions of naira.

A statement issued by the Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele and signed by Yusuf Idowu Abass, the Public Relations Officer, on Friday, said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations conducted across various locations in the state.

One of the suspects, Kayode Adekunle, a 30 year old mason, was arrested for allegedly burgling an uncompleted residential building situated at a new site in Osogbo, the state capital.

Omoyele stated that Adekunle used his access to the construction site to unlawfully enter the property after work hours and reportedly made away with electrical tools and wiring materials valued at about N2.5 million.

“After days of surveillance and intelligence gathering, our operatives traced him to his residence and recovered the stolen items,” Omoyele said.

Lawal Musa, a 23 year old tailor from Kaduna but residing in the Sabo area of Osogbo, was arrested for the theft of household appliances worth over N800,000.

Omoyele disclosed that items recovered from him included a flat-screen television, electrical cables, and two large standing fans.

“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to selling the television for N27,000 and the fans for N30,000 to a man identified as Rilwan, also from the Sabo area.

“Investigation is ongoing to determine whether Rilwan is part of a larger criminal network dealing in stolen goods,” the Amotekun Commander added.

In a separate incident in Ede, a 29 year old tailor and commercial motorcyclist, Lekan Bakare, was arrested for allegedly raping a 35 year old woman at gunpoint.

“According to the victim, the suspect invited her to assist in locating her missing ward. Upon arrival at his residence in the Alusekere area, Bakare allegedly brandished a locally made pistol and a knife, using them to threaten and rape her.

“The victim reported the case at our Ede office and we acted immediately. The suspect was arrested and he has confessed to the crime,” Omoyele confirmed.

While assuring that all suspects have been handed over to appropriate authorities for prosecution, the Amotekun Commander praised residents for providing timely information and pledged the agency’s continued efforts in combating criminal activity.

He said, “We will not rest until every neighbourhood is free from threats and those responsible are brought to justice.”
