All Negative Things I Said Against Tinubu Now Irrelevant — Bwala
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, Daniel Bwala has said all the negative things he said about President Bola Tinubu is now irrelevant.
Bwala stated this on Tuesday while appearing on Arise TV’s Morning Show.
THE WHISTLER reports that Bwala who was a senior member of the All Progressive Congress defected to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2023 general elections, where he emerged as the spokesman of the Atiku/Okowa campaign council.
As spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign, he was accused of throwing caution to the wind saying on one occasion on X/Twitter in November 2022 that, “The human brain is unique and miraculous. It works and functions optically 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year, UNTIL YOU JOIN APC, THEN IT STOPS WORKING.”
Bwala was not just a fierce critic of the APC as soon as he joined the PDP but Tinubu. After Tinubu’s outing at the Chatham House in London in December 2022, Bwala went hard questioning the President’s brain and capacity, saying, “About education, if they are asking you questions about individuals that are older than you after you have made the intervention, you can say, ‘I want ABC to add further.
“What he is doing is that he is saying, ‘Nigerians, I want you to vote 5, 10 or 12 of us. And a man who does not have regard and respect for the freedom of the press – look at the constitution, the freedom of the press is as important as fundamental human rights.
“He has abdicated the responsibility of appearing before the Nigerian press, but he went to what he called the rest of the world to appear before them,” he had said.
He characterised electing Tinubu as going for a night of thousand laughs.
After the election, Bwala delegitimised Tinubu’s government, describing it as “president-select” and further accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of manipulating the election.
He also said, “When people talk about being patient and waiting, you have to look at the time frame the public officer is expected to execute the work.
“The President has just been voted into a term of four years. He is eight months into the term which constitutes 31.8 per cent of the total time that he has.
“He has less than 70 percent time in government, when is that going to happen? When President Buhari took over in 2015 it was the same language and we patiently followed and he finished the first term and finished the second term.
“When there is a fundamental problem with policy, time is irrelevant, 30 years it will not work. Most of the economists I’ve listened to have faulted the President’s budget with which he was supposed to deliver the agenda flat-out…
“We want to see deliverables. Nigerians are tired of English, Mathematics, Economics, Science, and Technology. We want to see practical things,” he said.
He however staged a volte face and wasted no time to court the president and his men which eventually resulted in his emergence as the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy in 2024.
Quizzed on Tuesday on national television, he described it as all politics and that all negative things he said about the president now belong in the dustbin of history.
“I criticised Tinubu’s election and administration in the past because I was in the opposition.
“The opposition’s work is to criticise the sitting government and hold them accountable. My views changed after I met the President, and he saw a need to appoint me,” he said.
Asked if he has had a change of heart about the things he said against Tinubu, the presidential aide simply said, “They are not relevant.”
