Alimosho tensions: Police deny allegations of political bias in Lagos

Lagos State Police Command has refuted claims linking its officers to partisan politics, describing such allegations as false, misleading, and injurious to the integrity of the command.

The command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, made this known in a statement yesterday in Lagos, stressing that the police remain neutral in the discharge of their duties.

“The allegations by a section of a political party that our personnel support one party against another are false, misleading, and a disservice,” Oluseyi stated.

He explained that joint security teams, comprising conventional police officers, tactical squads, and anti-riot units, have been deployed since September 4 to Alimosho Local Government Area and other parts of the state.

The move, according to him, was designed to curb criminal activities, safeguard lives and property, and sustain peace across Lagos.

Oluseyi clarified that no political party or individual has lodged any formal complaint at police stations in Alimosho or anywhere else in the state regarding alleged attacks or reprisals.

“The deployed teams have remained professional and polite, providing security without bias. At no time did officers cover up for political attacks,” he said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, has consistently emphasized the command’s impartiality, reaffirming its constitutional mandate to enforce the law, protect lives and property, and ensure peace and order.
