Alcaraz Leads Team Europe To Laver Cup Victory

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz 6-2 7-5 to lead Team Europe to a 13-11 victory over Team World in the Laver Cup in the last session of the tournament.

He produced a dominant performance to brush aside Fritz as Team Europe clinched their fifth Laver Cup title.

Alcaraz admitted that winning the competition was tough while commending his teammates.

He said: “It’s been great. We came here as a group, all of us to win the Laver Cup. I’m pretty happy. I think everybody, for us, is, I mean, it’s been a tough one… we almost lost.”

Alcaraz also voiced his discontent over the congested tennis calendar after playing 14 tournaments this year.

He said: “Probably they are going to kill us in some way, right now, a lot of good players are going to miss tournaments because of that [injury].

“Sometimes, you don’t want to go to a tournament. I’m not going to lie—I have felt this way a few times already.

“I play my best tennis when I smile and enjoy it on the court. That’s the best option to keep motivating myself,” he said.

Alcaraz has won 41 out of the 50 games he has played this season while winning the French Open and the Wimbledon Open titles.

Next year’s Laver Cup takes place in San Francisco.
