Akpabio’s Wife Sues Senator Natasha For N251bn

The wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Unoma Godswill Akpabio, has filed two lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations of sexual harassment against her husband.

Mrs. Akpabio in the suits filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High court, Abuja, accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of defamation and violation of her family’s fundamental human rights.

The lawsuit followed an explosive live interview by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan on Arise TV, where she made allegations of sexual harassment against Senator Akpabio.

During the interview on Friday morning, Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed that her problem at the Senate started after she turned down sexual advances from the Senate President.

In response, Mrs Akpabio in a separate interview, said the allegations are unfounded, and made to gain attention and damage her family’s reputation.

In her fundamental rights lawsuit marked CV/814/2025, Mrs. Akpabio is asking the court to declare that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statements violated her rights, while urging the court to issue an order restraining the senator from making further damaging remarks against her family.

She is also demanding the sum of N250bn for the emotional and psychological damages allegedly caused by the Senator’s comments

In a separate defamation suit marked CV/816/2025, Mrs Akpabio claims that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations have seriously damaged her family’s reputation.

She therefore sought for an order of court compelling Akpoti-Uduaghan to formally retract the statements, and tender an unreserved public apology to her family, publishing the same in The Guardian and This Day newspapers.

In addition, Mrs. Akpabio urged the court to award the sum of N1bn in damages.

It would be recalled that Akpoti-Uduaghan had filed a defamatory suit against the Senate President Akpabio, demanding ₦100.3bn in damages for comments he made following their heated argument at plenary.

The suit followed a recent heated argument between her and the senate president over a change in her seat in the Senate chamber.

In her Arise TV interview, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Akpabio had blocked her motions from being heard on the floor of the Senate because she rejected his advances.

The Kogi central Senator also recounted another incident where Akpabio allegedly asked her “take care of him” for her motions to be considered at plenary.

She mentioned her motion to investigate corruption in the Ajaokuta Steel Company as one of those allegedly frustrated by the Senate President.
