Air Peace: Captain, first officer tested positive for ethyl – NSIB insists

The National Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has said that the report on the Air Peace crew was not the first it has conducted, insisting that the captain and the first officer tested positive for ethyl.

The Director-General of NSIB, Alex Badeh, made this statement on Friday, while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television.

“Nobody said the crew caused the crash; the report said the captain and first officer tested positive for ethyl, which is a byproduct of alcohol, and the cabin crew tested positive for THC from cannabis.

“But I would reiterate again, this is not the first preliminary report we’ve released, and it’s not the first toxicology test that we’ve done for crew in Nigeria.

“So if the NSIB has been in existence since 2006 and has investigated countless accidents and released countless reports, and this comes out, all of sudden, the NSIB is here to sabotage somebody? I think we need to start being fair and honest with ourselves.

“If this accident resulted in deaths, we will be having a whole lot of other conversations here.

“And no one said they were guilty or not guilty, or said this is what caused the crash,” he said.
