Again, National Grid Collapses
The national electricity grid collapsed again on Wednesday, leaving many parts of the country without supply.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed a sudden loss of power, attributing the outage to a disruption on the national grid.
“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 am today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas.
“Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilised,” AEDC stated.
The development comes despite repeated assurances from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) that the grid has remained stable this year.
On January 11, 2025, a reported collapse was not officially confirmed by TCN, while a February 12 incident was described by the company as a “line-tripping event” rather than a system-wide collapse.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) also maintained that the grid operated without any major disturbance throughout the first quarter of 2025.
The latest outage is expected to reignite debate over the state of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, as stakeholders await TCN’s official explanation.
