AfroBasket 2025: Senegal Sink Sudan, Face Nigeria’s D’Tigers in Quarter-Finals

Senegal sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket after cruising past Sudan in a decisive Round of 16 encounter on Monday. The Lions of Teranga delivered a commanding performance to secure victory and book a mouth-watering clash against Nigeria’s D’Tigers in the last eight.

Led by a dominant display from their frontcourt, Senegal quickly established control of the game, overpowering Sudan with aggressive rebounding and efficient scoring in the paint. Despite a spirited fightback from the tournament debutants, the Sudanese side struggled to contain Senegal’s pace and physicality.

By halftime, Senegal had built a double-digit lead and never looked back, rotating their squad to maintain intensity. Their sharp perimeter shooting in the final quarter ensured there would be no late drama, as they comfortably closed out the win.

The result sets up a heavyweight showdown with Nigeria’s D’Tigers, who topped their group with back-to-back wins, including a statement victory against defending champions Tunisia. The West African rivals are set to meet in what promises to be one of the most exciting quarter-final fixtures of the tournament.

Senegal, two-time AfroBasket champions, will be looking to extend their strong run of form, while Nigeria’s D’Tigers, chasing their second continental crown, aim to maintain their momentum as title favourites.
