African Renaissance Congress endorses 35% affirmative action, demands full gender parity

A new political movement, the African Renaissance Congress, ARC, has expressed its commitment to gender inclusion in politics, signing the 35% Affirmative Action Pledge for women’s participation in elective and appointed positions.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Saturday, ARC Convener, Dr Aliyu Audu, said the party partnered with the Ark and Rainbow Development Foundation to demonstrate its belief in women as “pillars of wisdom and resilience” who must play a central role in shaping Nigeria’s future.

“The Ark reminds us of God’s covenant, a vessel of preservation, progress, and promise. As in the days of Noah, it is time to build with faith, courage, and vision, ensuring that women are fully represented in steering our collective destiny. This is not just policy, it is prophecy,” Dr Audu declared.

However, while endorsing the 35% affirmative action framework, Dr Audu argued that true equity demands equal representation for both genders.

He asked, “Why are women asking for 35% inclusion when God created all shapes until He found Adam at his balanced best with the creature Hauwa? It should be 50% for both male and female at every table where matters of the community are to be discussed.”

The ARC leader emphasised that the movement’s vision is anchored on fairness and inclusivity, urging Nigerians to embrace a governance structure that reflects equal opportunities for men and women.

“The future is now. Let us build the Ark for us, by us,” Dr Audu added.

The African Renaissance Congress, which is seeking registration as a political party with INEC, has positioned itself as a platform for renewal and justice, with gender equality forming part of its foundational principles.
