Afenifere Diaspora Slams Falae’s Appointment As Chairman, Alleges Nepotism

The Afenifere Diaspora USA has condemned the appointment of Chief Olu Falae as the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group by Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing it as nepotism.

Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the Olu of ilu-Abo in Akure North council area of Ondo State, was appointed as the chairman of the National Executive Committee of the group.

In a statement signed by Chairman Prof. Sikiru Fadairo and Secretary Comrade David Adenekan on Saturday, the group alleged that Chief Falae is Pa Fasoranti’s brother-in-law.

They noted that Mrs. Oba Falae is a junior sister to Pa Fasoranti.

The group questioned the logic behind Pa Fasoranti’s decision, especially considering his resignation from the leadership structure of Afenifere in March 2021 due to old age and health-related issues.

Afenifere Diaspora USA noted that the tradition of the organisation only accords erstwhile leaders emeritus status and expressed concern that some individuals dismissed for anti-group activities are behind the sinister motive to plant a “divisive seed” in Afenifere.

“How can a man who had since tendered his letter of resignation from the leadership structure of Afenifere suddenly come from the blues to create an illusion of Afenifere’s leadership structure to impose his own brother-in-law on a great organization like Afenifere that its wide influence from Yoruba land spans across Niger Delta?

“…We strongly doubt if a man that has tendered his letter of resignation more than four years ago (16th of March, 2021 to be precise as reported by Punch National Newspaper) due to old age and health related issues, will want to approbate and reprobate,” the group said.

The group declared that Afenifere, under the leadership of Oba Oladipo Olaitan, remains vigilant and will not hesitate to nip divisive plots in the bud.

“However, to all the strange fellows who want to use the name of Afenifere to negotiate and promise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) support for a second term in office for rewards of plum jobs, contracts and pay checks, Afenifere under the able and amiable leadership of Oba Oladipo Olaitan remains vigilant and will not hesitate to nip such divisive plots in the bud,” the group declared.

They also stated that Chief Olu Falae is unknown to the leadership structure of Afenifere as left behind by the late Chief Ayo Samuel Adebanjo.
