ADC sets up disciplinary committee over Abia leadership crisis

African Democratic Congress, ADC, South-East zone, has set up a Disciplinary Committee to look into the crisis rocking its Abia State chapter.

According to the party leadership, its Abia chapter is currently experiencing a series of divergent interests at the wake of the coalition process which tends to change its leadership structure.

A press statement signed by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chilos Godsent, disclosed that a new wave of power struggle has swept through its Abia chapter, with thousands of coalition partners swelling its ranks.

The party spokesperson noted that while the surge is an unavoidable development that could boost synergy among party members, it has inevitably sparked some misunderstandings.

Godsent hinted that in order to address the tension and preserve unity, members of the Zonal leadership convened an emergency session, in Owerri, Imo State, under the chairmanship of Sir Bon Unachukwu, the party’s National Vice Chairman, Southeast.

He added that the zonal leadership reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and cohesion in its Abia chapter to ensure the party’s progress remained unhindered.

“Accordingly, a three-man Investigative and Disciplinary Committee was constituted to handle the matter.

“The committee comprises Dr. Uche Edeh, Chairman, Barr. Anyanwu Chioma Joy, Secretary, and Chilos Godsent, member,” he stated.

The party’s spokesperson further revealed that major tasks before the Committee include: engaging major leaders and stakeholders, interacting with factional groups, reviewing petitions and relevant documents, and making recommendations that will lead to an amicable resolution of the crisis.

The Committee, according to the press statement, is expected to conclude its assignment and submit a report within 14 days of its inauguration, in line with the party’s constitution.
