Adamawa: Police confirm outbreak of fresh violence over missing 4 youths in Lamurde
The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed fresh violence in Lamurde Local Government Area.
A report on Wednesday indicated that the latest bout of violence led to the disappearance of four youths during an ambush as they arrived at a farm where they had been paid to work in the Tingno Dutse axis of Lamurde.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, August 5, when a Tingno Dutse resident hired four youths to apply chemicals on his farm. Upon arriving, they were allegedly ambushed and have since remained missing.
The four missing youths are feared dead, prompting the Tingno Dutse community to protest the incident, asserting in a statement: “This is a matter of life, justice, and peace. The blood of the innocent must not be ignored.”
The community staged a peaceful protest on Wednesday to the Tingno Police Division, submitting an official petition to the Divisional Police Officer and giving a 48-hour ultimatum to the police and other authorities to produce the missing youths.
The Adamawa State Police Command PRO, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident and announced that the officer in charge of operations had moved to the area with personnel to maintain law and order.
A communal clash had first occurred in the same Lamurde neighbourhood last month over disputed land.
That initial clash caused several deaths and the destruction of dozens of houses and other valuable property, compelling the state government to impose a 24-hour curfew that was later relaxed to a dusk-to-dawn movement restriction.
